We are excited to introduce you to a madly ambitious problem solver Marta Satterthwaite. She is a Senior Creative, Graphic Designer, Illustrator & Animator.
Why have you decided to step into design field?
I always had a great interest in art, so steering my career into creative industry was inevitable. I have an incredibly competitive nature and I find that every time I start with a new brief it has an element of a challenge to it. The more difficult the better. We are problem solvers after all.
What inspires you and why?
I find inspiration in various places, a lot of my work has Japanese influence. I love the composition of Japanese antique woodblock prints.
How do you measure the success of your design?
I suppose it’s the ability of my work to speak for itself. Before you get to the background of the concept, or start elaborating about the idea, it has already won the client. That’s when I know it’s a good design.
What is your biggest challenge in design creation process?
Making sure it solves the problem. A lot of briefs these days don’t have a clear problem that needs to be solved by the design, or they suggest the solution that client looks for before they even describe the problem. It makes it incredibly hard to deliver strong design with purpose when you don’t have clearly outlined problem.
What principles do you follow when creating attention grabbing design?
I am looking for things that haven’t been done before. I try to avoid obvious solutions, sometimes the inspiration comes from the least expected places.
I try to look at the briefs from 3 ways, how it can be solved with typography, illustration or design. That gives me a good overview of what can be done so I can choose the most suitable and creative solution.
